Jimmy Maxwell is a society bandleader, pianist and a former partner of Peter Duchin (son of Eddy Duchin). Blending the styles of Lester Lanin and Peter Duchin, he performs for debutante balls and charitable galas across the U.S. and abroad. He also conducts the music of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras.
Jimmy also serves as director of the Louis Armstrong Society, has conducted for Harry Connick Sr. in “A Tribute To Frank Sinatra with The Nelson Riddle Orchestra,” and performed for Presidents Reagan, Bush (’41) and Clinton as well as members of the British Royal Family.
A direct descendant of the Maxwells of Caerlaverock, he is linked to the Earls, Barons, and Baronets of the United Kingdom. The family flourished under the kings Malcolm IV and William I in the second half of the 12th century. The name Maccusweil is derived from Weil, a fishing pool, and Maccus, a former owner of lands to the south of the river Tweed.
The rewards for service to His Majesty were rich and included the great barony of Caerlaverock on the Solway coast.
Relatives include James Clerk Maxwell whose contributions to science opened the door for the use of radio waves for radio, television, and countless other modern applications. “Maxwell’s law” is considered one of the ten mathematical formulas that changed the face of the earth. His work paved the way for Einstein to determine the connection between energy, mass, and the speed of light.
Another notable Maxwell in the family tree is Elsa Maxwell who reigned as America’s top party-giver in the mid-twentieth century. Her parties for royalty and high society figures of her day earned her the nickname "the hostess with the mostest” by the press.
